For my kids

Thankful Thursday. Being Poor

November 17, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

Look. There is something that drives me CRAZY! Spoiled rotten children! Seriously. I came across this “well off” family. They buy their kids everything! They are those parents who give all their children presents on their friends birthdays and siblings birthday. I can’t stand kids like this and it is because their parents just have money to burn!

I am thankful for being poor. I mean I am not POOR I get to buy things I need, pay my bills, I am a middle class family. I don’t have money to buy my kids something every time we hit a supermarket or Target. I don’t buy socks, toys or pants if they “loose” the other ones. I just don’t do it. I mean I am not sure if I was rich I would be the same but I probably would. I am spoiled. I like my money for me. Well us to do things as a family. Not on another package of underwear because I refuse to wash the ones we have.

So yeah this week I am thankful for being poor and my children appreciating what they have and receive.

10 Awesome Uses For Baking Soda

November 8, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

One of my favorite blog moms loves to make posts about things around the house and I thought she has something here. Then I realized I ALWAYS use my baking soda for EVERYTHING why not share some uses you may have never known!

1. Mix half a teaspoon with peroxide paste and use it as toothpaste.

2. Pour over carpet and suck it in with your vacuum cleaner to remove the odor.

3. Sprinkle it onto your cat’s litter box to absorb the bad odor. This legit works WONDERS! I use it and it is so wonderful.

4. Keep cut flowers fresh longer by adding a teaspoon to the water in the vase.

5. Wipe your windshield with it to repel rain.

6. Scatter baking soda around flowerbeds to prevent rabbits from eating your veggies.

7. Add a cup to the toilet, leave it for an hour, and then flush. It will clean the toilet and absorb the odor.

8. Use it to clean your retainers and dentures. This is probably my favorite because my mouth guard at night is just plain old gross so this is my go too!

9. Deodorize drains and garbage disposals. My bosses have a garbage disposal (I love it) and I use this about once every 3 days.

10. And of course leave one opened in your fridge to keep all bad smells away! But I think we all knew this one!

DO you have anything you would like to add to the list?

A Stich In Time Review

November 5, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

A good old school friend of mine just started up her own little business A Stich In Time. I had the pleasure of being one of her first clients to write a review for her! She made my Alora a beautiful “Harry Potter” blanket personalized with her name!

I love afghans and have many memories of being under the blue, green, aqua, purplish one my mom had growing up! Sick, sad, happy, cold, boyfriend troubles it was my go to comfy thing. I love that alora now has hers!

Erin is so awesome she even makes baby cacuns and matching hats! She is making me some for the upcoming babies in my life! She makes Santa ones and bees even footballs! You have to check her out!

The more likes she gets on her Facebook page the sooner she can host a giveaway! So my beautiful readers can you all go and “like” A Stich In Time here on facebook? Tell her I sent you! Besides there is always a baby who needs something warm right! I know I’m going to be looking into some or her stuff to donate to my local shelter for the holidays!

Stress Balloons

November 5, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

YUP my worst fear in the entire world has come true! I said, thought and wrote out Balloons. We all know, well some of you might not know yet, I have a terrible fear of balloons. Anywho there is an amazing thing you can do with these little suckers though! STRESS BALLS!

You know those balls that are filled with sand and stuff you buy at the store that “release” stress and help you cope? They are like $5+ a ball!? Well here ya go! A cheep alternative ready?!

Take a nice balloon a color of your liking and blow it up a little to stretch it.

Let the air out and take a little funnel and put it in the mouth of the balloon.

Fill the balloon as much as you would like (golf ball size works great for little children hands when they are bored or stressed.) with rice or sand (I like sand) and tie it off….

BAM You got your self a stress ball! Pretty cool huh!?

Just don’t go bringing them around me!

It’s The Most Wonderful Time

OF THE YEAR!

So I am a bit in love with the holiday season! From Christmas music, balck Friday, loads of food and friends. This is by far my favorite time of year! Not to mention bitter cold and snow! (Yes I love them!)

If you haven’t heard by now I am going to DISNEY WORLD right before Christmas! From the 11-14 just small 4 day get away with my dad and kids and my Auntie Marylou is meeting us there! Mini family reunion! Even though this is a dream come true (I have always wanted to witness Disney at Christmas) it is getting stressful!

Black Friday is 22 days away! I have to sit down and write out my plan of attack! Before that though I have to get out all my Christmas decorations so after shopping all night and morning on black Friday I can put them all up and light up!

Some people are calling me crazy (ok I am but that’s me right?!) because I started playing Christmas music 2 weeks ago I mean how could I not we got snow twice before Halloween! It was so exciting! They also think I am nuts because in the middle of a snow storm I like to hop in Bertha (my van) head to dunkies grab a hot chocolate and drive around! My kids love this too! I just love testing my driving abilities the kids love the loud Christmas music. Not to mention the awesome bonding time we have over something we all enjoy.

I love making pies! Hey I’m a fat kid I love pie. It fills my house with warm smells and makes my skinny preteen fatten up!

It gives me a reason to buy lots of baileys.

Driving around looking at lights! I mean hello how can you not! We have this awesome nighborhood that all the house are hooked up together and the lights flash and dance to the music! They even have their own radio station! Holy smokes right! Amazing!

Even though Halloween is over I always put on the grinch and scare Alora! Heehee

A Christmas story! Hello enough said!

Ok babbling has got out of control. What I wanted to blog about was numbers. So here I go.

22 days till black Friday. 38 days till Disney. And 52 days till Christmas! If we are going by paychecks (which is a good counting technique lol) and you get paid weekly we have 3 paychecks (if you get paid Fridays) till black Friday black Friday being paycheck 4. 6 paychecks till my Disney trip. And 7 till Christmas. If you get paid bi weekly well then you have 2 paychecks till black Friday. 3 till my Disney trip. And believe it or not only 4 till Christmas.

Freaking out yet? I am. But I’m freaking out that my Christmas music will stop to soon! My days of winter storms will be numbered. And my excuse to bake pies is running to fast!

What are your thoughts over these next few weeks?!

Thankful Thursday

November 3, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

This week I want to thank who ever invented naps! And no I am not talking about the ones babies take. The ones I take!

I live for naps! I crave naps! And now that all 5 kids go to school I get to nap a lot! How I missed naps!

The way I look at it is I can get the house cleaned, the dishes, the laundry, the dogs and everything else after the kids are in bed and while I’m watching my shows! I don’t need to sit my fat arse on the sofa and watch them. Besides if you do a little a day (ie taking trash out every day and a load every night.) It shouldn’t be that overwhelming. This also goes back to a post I made a few months ago about how parents can not function today.

Now that it is winter my gosh naps are even better! I put on an over size sweat shirt curl up with the dog and sleep! Usually my nap is so awesome I drool and have amazing dreams of meeting Harry Potter, going to Hogwarts or shaking Helena Bohnam-Carter’s hand and she then wants to be my best friend because my handshake is the best she ever had. Good times my naps are.

So what is it this week you are thankful for?

A Fork In The Road

October 31, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

I have come to a fork in the road of my life.

I am being given the opportunity to go to college. What is the problem here?

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WANT TO BE WHEN I GROW UP!

I can not honestly think of anything I want to go to college for!? What do I want to be? Where do I want to go? Can I do this? I am almost 30! Should I be a nurse. No not a nurse I don’t want that I want to get away from the medical field. Should I learn to write and work for a news paper? Nope not that either the internet is killing the prints.

Seriously! I am open to ideas here people! What do you think I should go to school for!? Honestly I do not want to be a teacher, nurse, care giver or anything like that.

Why am I having such a hard time with this? Sorry I know it isn’t a long blog but I needed to get this out there! What should I do?

5 Things That Are Not Fair

October 30, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

So I always find myself, ok not always, but sometimes thinking this just is not fair. So I thought I would share them with you.

1. My feet are way to big! I mean come on I am only 5’5 and I have to wear a size 11? Do you know how hard it is to find 11 shoes?! And do not even get me going on boots! I can never wear cute sexy winter boots! Stupid large feet with sausage toes.

2. Stupid broken ears. I hate not being able to hear everything.

3. I don’t like cake. This just is not fair! I should LOVE cake, everyone should love cake! I mean come on who doesn’t love cake? Me yup me. This is not fair because what is the point of me going to birthday parties? And cupcakes? I rarely eat one. When I want one I go buy it I take a bite and usually that is it. This is just not fair.

4. I had to buy a mini van at the age of 25. Seriously? Yea going from 3 kids to 5 I had to have one but if the gas prices didn’t suck I would be able to drive a nice cute SUV with a third row. That and the fact I had double everything (strollers mostly) so I needed a large trunk. Yea have you seen 3rd row SUVs? They do not have this.

5. My thinning, dull, limp stupid turning gray hair. Really it is like my body said “Oh you will be 30 in a few months lets sag your boobs, enlarge your feet (even more) make your body hurts when it rains and OH turn your hair to crap.” Yes thank you. I wish they had miracle grow for hair.

What is something that is not fair in your life?

Graveyard Halloween Cake!

October 29, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

My Mom use to make this for me very year! It is so yummy! And super simple…

A box of your favorite cake mix made as directed. You can make any shape you like. I like a square cake because I feel like I can make a better graveyard 🙂

Grab a box of Oreos and crush them all up! So you have an Oreo crumble. You can buy the boxes of this stuff but double stuff Oreos and their yummyness has my heart.

2 boxes of chocolate pudding. Make as Directed.

Mix in a big bowl the pudding and Oreos and you have your “frosting.”

When the cake cools spread on the mix and it looks like dirt huh!? Cool yup…

Then take a few Molano Cookies (because they look like tomb stones) and some black cake writing. I like to write things like RIP or Dead. (Yea I am pretty original lol.)

Place those all over.

Grab some big marshmallows and with the black writing make eyes and place those all around (little ghosts.)

I sometimes take candy corn and other things to decorate if I feel like it! But its pretty cute anyway 🙂 And wicked yummy too!!!

This isn’t my picture because of course my kids and I ate the cake before it cooled off and I forgot to take one haha…

Just A Few No No’s For Halloween

October 28, 2011 by Sandy Leave a Comment

There is few things about Halloween that bother me…. Not much but here is a few no No’s I think most would agree to… Moms at least I hope.

1. You are how old? Do not take your kids out trick or treating in a skimpy naughty nurse or French maid. Your old wrinkly and not cute.

2. Don’t eat your children’s candy. At least not till they are in bed. Then by all means eat up those snickers! Besides their teeth are young and healthy we don’t want cavities!

3. don’t be that lazy parent who leaves the mini van door open and roll down the road while your kids jump in and out. Did you know hundreds of kids every year are hurt by vehicles on Halloween? Ya be smart people.

4. Don’t wear high heels and skimpy clothes because you want to impress the dads that were left home to pass out candy. Your feet will hurt and that is well sk**ky…

5. Sending your 14 year old out with your 4 year old. Come on now the guy in the van with no windows is watching.

6. If you are being chased by the boogy man DO NOT RUN UP STAIRS! Common sense people!

7. Carry a flash light not a fog light that’s annoying ( yes this happened last year.)

8. He/She may only be 11 but your still embarrassing to them. Just walk a few feet behind and never get to close or say they are cute.

9. Do not pet the black cat.

10. Last but not least. Don’t eat the snickers bars! That scary old lady from the commercial might get you! Ahhhhh so scary!
